Presapod College Project

My first project for college this year was to take Orangebox's Air3 Acoustic pod and create a 'hacked' version - thus adding to or enhancing the pod in some way that they can market. This was a huge struggle for me to start with, as more often than not with our projects we are allowed to come up with completely new concepts - which we weren't allowed to do here.

However after the initial tough concept and brainstorming stages I came up with the idea of the 'Presapod' - a version of the Air3 that allows the users to project onto a huge glass screen with a touchable interface, creating a new and dynamic experience for the user. The pod features smart glass from www.privalite.eu and acoustic panels from www.soundtect.com. The concept isn't totally complete, but here you can see my final boards that I presented on Monday.

Overall I am happy with my design, but I'm looking forward to concentrating on my main fourth year project from now on, where I have control over the complete design. But more posts to follow about that. Until next time...

Generator Hostels

Hi everyone,

Welcome to my first ever blog post! My name is Rebecca Wadsworth, and I am currently in my final year studying Interior Architecture at Cork Institute of Technology. In this blog I hope to share everything from my design inspirations to projects I'm working on, as well as keeping you up to date on fourth year college life!

For my first post I want to talk a little bit about the Generator Hostel brand. With locations all over Europe they are one of the world's fastest growing hostel chains - and it is clear to see why. The design-conscious brand has placed a huge emphasis on creating memorable interiors created by Toronto based studio 'DesignAgency'.

The inspiration behind each hostel design is the city itself, and DesignAgency spends a huge amount of their time sourcing locally made furniture and fixtures as well as integrating the work of local artists into their design. From the red double-decker bus located in the lobby of the Generator London, to the chandelier made of Jameson bottles in Generator Dublin, guests can be sure that there will always be something to look at. Here are some of my favourite Generator interiors - I love their eclectic mix of styles and furniture.

If anyone has stayed at one of the Generator hostels I would love to know what you thought - I can't wait to stay at their Dublin location within the next few weeks! Until next time...
